John graduated from Dartmouth College in 1981 and received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1985. He spent the next 23 years at Morgan Stanley in New York in their investment banking division covering U.S. and international companies involved in the commercial real estate industry.
In 2011, John was hired by Mitsui Fudosan Group to advise their US real estate subsidiary, Mitsui Fudosan America Inc. (MFA). In 2015, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and elected to MFA’s board of directors. In this role, he was responsible for MFA’s operations in the US and the development and management of a large portfolio of Class-A office, apartment and major mixed-use real estate projects throughout the U.S. During this time, John served on the board of the Halekulani Corporation which owns the historic Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu, HI. John retired from MFA in December 2023. He currently serves as an independent director of Bright Spire Capital, an NYSE listed real estate investment trust where he chairs the company’s governance and nominating committee and serves on its compensation committee.
John has served on numerous non-profit, municipal and educational boards, including the Gasparilla Island Conservation and Improvement Assn (current), Bronxville Planning Board, the investment committees of the Lawrence Hospital pension fund and the Bronxville Reformed Church endowment, the board of governors of Siwanoy Country Club, and the Foundation for Economic Education.
John and his wife are residents of Boca Grande, Florida.
